How to Clean Up Cat Poop
Supplies Needed:
- Disposable gloves
- Poop scoop or plastic bags
- Cat litter
- Disinfectant wipes or sanitizing spray
- Trash bag
Steps to Clean Up Cat Poop:
1. Prepare:
- Put on disposable gloves to protect yourself from bacteria and possible parasites.
2. Scoop:
- Use a scoop or a plastic bag turned inside out to scoop up the cat poop. Try to remove the poop without breaking it up too much, as this can create a bigger mess.
3. Dispose of Poop:
- Drop the scooped-up poop into a lined trash bag. Tie the trash bag tightly before throwing it away.
4. Clean the Litter Box:
- Remove all the old litter from the litter box.
- Wash the litter box with soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and let the litter box dry completely before refilling it with new litter.
5. Disinfect:
- Wipe the area around the litter box and any surfaces that may have come into contact with cat poop with disinfectant wipes or sanitizing spray.
6. Wash Hands:
- After handling cat poop, always wash your hands with soap and water.
7. Refill the Litter Box:
- Once the litter box is clean and dry, refill it with fresh cat litter.
Tips:
- Clean the litter box regularly to prevent odor and the spread of bacteria. Aim to scoop out solids daily and replace the litter once a week.
- Provide multiple litter boxes, especially if you have more than one cat, as cats prefer to use separate boxes.
- Use an enzymatic cleaner to remove stubborn stains and odors from cat urine and poop.
- If your cat is defecating outside the litter box, consult a veterinarian to rule out any underlying health issues or behavioral problems.
