Many cats do not tolerate baking soda well. These cats might benefit from using edible calcium montmorillonite clay or commercial meat-flavored toothpastes instead.

Your cat can benefit from having her teeth and gums cleaned naturally. Start getting her used to having her teeth cleaned by rubbing her teeth and gums with your finger. Once she is comfortable with this process, switch over to a soft rubber finger brush, gently rubbing her teeth and gums with the brush.

Making Natural Cat Toothpaste

Step 1

Measure one teaspoon of baking soda and pour it into a small cup.

Step 2

Mix one-half tsp. of water into the baking soda.

Step 3

Stir the baking soda and water into a paste. You can add a small amount of crushed mint leaves to the paste if you want to alter the smell and taste, but your cat will most likely prefer the baking soda paste by itself.
