Michigan Authorities Intensify Hunt for Pack of Dogs After Fatal Saginaw Attack

Michigan Dog Pack Kills Neighborhood Dog

Saginaw, MI – There’s a pack of seven to twelve dogs running lose in Saginaw, Michigan. Police are telling residents to take caution when outdoors; last weekend the dog pack killed a 65 pound domesticated dog. Saginaw sheriff William Federspiel plans to ask the Michigan State Police for help tracking the dogs.

Saginaw County Sheriff’s and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intensified their search for the dogs after a 65 pound neighborhood dog was attacked and killed last weekend. They’ve been searching by horseback and aircraft this week – live traps have been set along a 2 mile radius. Efforts are being taken to humanely trap the animals. The neighborhood has been warned to be cautious when outdoors, the dogs pose a public health threat and can harm people.

No one knows exactly how long the animals have been roaming the area. They were likely dumped near the Green Point Nature Center, which used to be home to the Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant until it was razed in 2010. Elaine Thompson is the interim director for Saginaw County Animal Control, she believes they have adapted to their surroundings and are now raising their young. “Probably someone abandoned them instead of bringing them to a shelter,” Thompson said. “They learned to survive off small game and the water.”
