Heartwarming Rescue: Abandoned Dog in California Finds New Home After 'Free' Message on Fur
Abandoned Dog Found in California with the words “Free” and “I need a home” Written on Fur
Last week in Benecia California Shannon Bettencourt found an abandoned dog with the words “free” and “I need a home” written on its fur with black marker. She found the dog after work on July 3rd. The pooch was sitting alone in the middle of a sidewalk near a tree , scared and shaking.
Bettencourt feared that the dog was going to seized by animal control so she decided to take her home. She nicknamed the dog Libby, short for Liberty. Bellencourt said she was only planning on keeping the pup overnight but ended up bonding with the animal and has now made plans to adopt her. She says the animal seems to be healthy and well trained which makes it more puzzling as to why the dog was abandoned in the first place.
Update
A woman has come forward stating she is the abandoned dogs owner. On Wednesday a woman from Yolo county drove to the Benicia Police Department to prove that she is the dog’s owner. She provided photos, vet records, and witness testimony. She said she doesn’t know how the dog got out of her yard and had nothing to do with the dogs abandonment.
