Recognizing Food Allergies That Discomfort Dogs: Symptoms, Causes & Relief

Mr. Lucy is my neighbor John’s dog.  He is a sweet and adorable dog.  Mr. Lucy however, has a big problem with licking and pulling out his fur.  John tried everything.  He thought it might be fleas.  He got Mr. Lucy a flea and tick collar.  Mr. Lucy continued licking and pulling out his fur.  John decided to get some professional help when nothing seemed to be working.

John decided to take Mr. Lucy to the vet.  The vet believed based on the symptoms that John had described Mr. Lucy was suffering from food allergies.  The vet checked on the diet Mr. Lucy was on.  He found Mr. Lucy had been eating grains such as soy, wheat, and corn.  Grains are sometimes the food that dogs are allergic to.  The vet immediately suggested a food that had no wheat, soy or corn in it.  John checked and found there are several good choices on the market, buy dry food for a dog from our online pet store.

Many times animals will experience food allergies.  Food allergies can create sensitivities in animals.  They can get dry itchy skin, ear infections, develop excessive behaviors which can include pulling out their fur to the extent of getting bald patches, licking and a high frequency of hot spots.

Although any food can become an allergen, some foods are more likely to generate a reaction than others. Frequent offenders for canines can include:

  • Beef
  • Chicken
  • Corn
  • Dairy products
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lamb
  • Soy
  • Wheat

Grain free food really worked.  Mr. Lucy is back to being his old self.  He is as good as new.  My neighbor John is so happy his best friend is happy and healthy again.  John said he will continue to watch Mr. Lucy’s activities and actions so that he will always know what’s going on with his pet.

We should all do like John.  Paying close attention to your pet will help you figure out if something is wrong.  There are indicators that should alert you when something is not right.  The sooner you know something is wrong the sooner you are able to get help for your best buddy.  Don’t wait! It is imperative that you seek a professional.
