Essential Pet Care Documents Every Owner Should Have

Important Documents All Pet Parents Need: We live in the age of technology but, there are still documents that you need to have on hand for your pets.  What are they and why are they important?

  1. Rabies certification:  It is so important for your pet to have his/her rabies shots. Rabies is a virus that is spread by an infected animal through bites or scratches. Rabies can be deadly to both humans and animals.  So please get your pet vaccinated.
  2. Vaccination records: for your pet is also an important record to have.  If you are traveling, you may to show his shots are up to date.  These are the core vaccines your dog needs: Canine distemper, canine parvovirus, rabies and canine adenovirus 1 infection. Don’t forget to treat your pet when you bring him to the vet. Core vaccinations for cats include Feline panleukopenia, feline calicivirus, feline rhinotracheitis, rabies.  Just like humans, your cat may be nervous when visiting the vet.  To calm him down give him a tasty pet treat: buy here Dog Treats and Cat Treats
  3. Papers: showing you are the owner of your pet.  This will give you peace of mind just in case you are separated from your best friend.
    4-License. Keep it safe:  Your pet may receive one from the state once you apply.  Make sure he wears it with other tags he may have received from the vet.
  4. Emergency phone numbers: Keep a list of emergency numbers next to your phone.  They should include: the vet, poison hotline, a family member to help you take care of your pet in case of an emergency. Pet sitter. An emergency can happen and not always are we able to access them on our cell phone so keep these numbers on the refrigerator or someplace you can easily access them.
  5. Photos: Take lots of photos with you and your pet.  Display some of your photos in your home.  A 5×7 photo or larger is recommended just in case your pet is missing.

Though I never thought I’d need to utilize emergency evacuation plans, I was grateful to have them when flood waters threatened my home. During a critical time when local authorities implemented a mandatory evacuation, my list of items came in handy. I was able to gather all belongings needed, get them safely stowed away, and leave the area in a hurry.
