Are Your Fragrances Harmful to Pets? Expert Tips to Safeguard Their Health

I’m currently doing a series of videos on environmental toxins and ways to reduce them so they don’t negatively impact your pet’s health or longevity.

One small factor that’s important to consider is the personal grooming and hygiene products you use on yourself and how these can impact your pets.

How Hygiene Products Can Harm Your Pets

If your pet is in the room with you as you’re applying body sprays such as perfume or cologne, the droplets will fall onto their skin as well. Since their skin is an absorbent organ, they’ll absorb these synthetic chemicals into their body.

Additionally, any skincare creams, lotions, or even make-up such as foundation that you put on your skin has the potential to rub off on our pets. For example, when you cuddle or kiss your pet, a small amount of these products transfer over to their skin. Then they ingest the products while licking or grooming themselves.

How to Prevent This

The best thing you can do is be aware and mindful of this. Minimize the contact your pet has with these types of products. For example, apply your perfume in a different room so the droplets don’t fall on your pet.

You can also switch to all-natural hygiene and personal grooming products to reduce the risk to your pets.
