How We Build Our Professional Pet Sitting Team
At Wisconsin Pet Care, we’re navigating a unique challenge—one that many pet‑sitting companies will never face. The stakes are high: ensuring that every dog, cat, and their loved ones receive care from only the most reliable, compassionate, and trustworthy professionals.
We admit that finding qualified talent is difficult. In fact, 95% of applicants fall short of our stringent hiring criteria.

Why does it feel like you can’t locate a pet sitter who truly wants to spend a day outdoors with animals? Why are there so few who choose a life of animal care over a conventional office job? The answer is simple: we set the bar exceptionally high.
Our hiring process is designed so that, as a client, you can rest easy knowing our team meets the highest standards of trustworthiness, honesty, and reliability. Here’s what we do:
- Verify at least five professional references from previous employers.
- Conduct a national criminal background check.
- Administer a 150‑question PEP (Personality Evaluation Profile) to assess key traits.
- Require candidates to shadow our existing team, including a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) who observes and evaluates their skills.
- Interview with a licensed personality expert who probes ethics, criminal history, and potential character issues—catching concerns through body language and consistency checks.
Those who don’t meet these standards are not hired. Consequently, we can’t take on new clients or fully serve current ones if staffing is insufficient. If you call and hear, “I’m sorry, we’ll need to put you on a waitlist,” please know we’re committed to both your peace of mind and the safety of your pets.
We invest time, love, sweat, capital, and a strong ethical foundation into every hire. We hope you understand and appreciate the rigorous standards we uphold—and the associated costs—because we believe that’s how we keep our promises to you.
