Create a Portable Dog Paw Washer: Quick & Easy DIY Guide
Ever get back to the car after a hike or messy walk with your pup and realize his paws are a total disaster? (Meaning: Your car is about to become a future disaster.) This clever DIY turns a Thermos mug into a totally effective portable paw washer. Check it out!
Things you'll need.
- 32 oz. Thermos mug
- Rubber bands
- Bath pouf
- 3 commercial sponges
- Golf towel
- Scissors
- Knife
- Bottle of water
- Non-toxic soap
Step One: Create Sponge Rings
Position sponge on top of mug and make markings so you know where to begin cutting off the sides (you'll eventually be turning the sponge into a ring that will fit inside the mug).
Cut off sides of sponge.
Cut off edges of sponge.
Use scissors to shape outside of sponge into a circle. Using a knife, begin cutting out a circle from the center to form a ring. Test with your pup's paw to make sure it fits! Repeat with remaining two sponges.
Step Two: Create Pouf Sleeve
Cut center string from a bath pouf and unravel. Cut a segment that is four times the depth of your mug, plus a little extra.
Slip your pouf sleeve through the centers of the three rings.
Then, pull one end of the tube OVER the rings, creating a double sleeve. Adjust so that both ends of the sleeve are equal.
Step Three: Assemble Paw Washer
Push your mesh pouf/sponge set into the mug, with the excess sleeve pointing upwards.
Wrap your double sleeve over the sides/opening of the mug. Secure with as many rubber bands as you feel it needs.
Step Four: Put to Use!
Fill the paw washer with water, and add a few drops of soap. Replace cap of mug and shake to mix. Insert doggie's paw, moving it back and forth to remove dirt and mud. Dry paw with your towel and voilà! Clean paws!
