How to Make Dog Pajamas

* 1/2 yard of cotton fabric

* 1/4 yard of contrasting fabric

* 1 package of bias tape

* 1/4" elastic

* Sewing machine

* Thread

* Scissors

* Measuring tape

* Pins

Instructions

1. Measure your dog's length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

2. Measure your dog's chest girth at the widest point.

3. Add 2 inches to each measurement for seam allowances.

4. Cut two rectangles of fabric from the cotton fabric, each measuring the length of your dog's back plus 2 inches for seam allowances. The width of each rectangle should be half of your dog's chest girth plus 2 inches for seam allowances.

5. Cut two smaller rectangles of fabric from the contrasting fabric, each measuring 6 inches by 4 inches.

6. Fold each small rectangle in half twice, right sides together, and press flat.

7. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam around the edges of each small rectangle, leaving a 2-inch opening on one side.

8. Turn each small rectangle right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners.

9. Press each small rectangle flat.

10. Fold each small rectangle in half lengthwise, right sides together, and press flat.

11. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam along the long edge of each small rectangle.

12. Fold each small rectangle in half crosswise, right sides together, and press flat.

13. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam along the short edge of each small rectangle.

14. Unfold each small rectangle and you will have four bias tape ties.

15. Fold one of the rectangles of cotton fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together, and press flat.

16. Stitch a 1/2-inch seam along the raw edges of the fabric, starting at the folded edge and stopping 2 inches from the top.

17. Repeat Step 16 for the other rectangle of cotton fabric.

18. Turn each pajama piece right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners.

19. Press each pajama piece flat.

20. Fold the bottom edge of each pajama piece up 1 inch and press flat.

21. Fold the bottom edge up again 1 inch and press flat.

22. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam along the folded edges of each pajama piece.

23. Fold the top edge of each pajama piece down 1 inch and press flat.

24. Fold the top edge down again 1 inch and press flat.

25. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam along the folded edges of each pajama piece.

26. Attach the bias tape ties to the top of each pajama piece, positioning them evenly spaced apart.

27. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam along the edges of the bias tape ties, securing them in place.

Tips

* Choose a fabric that is comfortable for your dog to wear. Cotton is a good choice because it is breathable and soft.

* Make sure to measure your dog carefully so that the pajamas will fit well.
