How to Make an Eye Patch for a Dog
- A clean, soft cloth (such as a handkerchief or piece of flannel)
- A roll of adhesive tape (such as medical tape or electrical tape)
- Scissors
- A pen or pencil
- A ruler
2. Measure the area around your dog's eye.
- Gently hold your dog's head and use the pen or pencil to mark the area around its eye.
- Make sure to measure the width, height, and depth of the area.
- Add 1/2 inch to each measurement to allow for some extra room.
3. Cut out the cloth.
- Use the scissors to cut out a piece of cloth that is the same size as the measurements you took in step 2.
- Make sure the edges of the cloth are smooth.
4. Fold the cloth in half twice.
- Fold the cloth in half lengthwise, then fold it in half again widthwise.
- The folded cloth should now be a square.
5. Cut out the center of the square.
- Use the scissors to cut out the center of the square, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- The hole in the center of the square should be large enough to cover your dog's eye completely.
6. Apply adhesive tape to the edges of the cloth.
- Use the adhesive tape to seal the edges of the cloth around the hole.
- Make sure the tape is applied smoothly and securely.
7. Apply the eye patch to your dog's eye.
- Hold the eye patch in place over your dog's eye and gently press the adhesive tape down around the edges.
- Make sure the eye patch is snug but not too tight.
- If necessary, you can use additional pieces of tape to secure the eye patch in place.
8. Keep your dog calm and still.
- Once the eye patch is in place, try to keep your dog calm and still so that it doesn't dislodge the eye patch.
- You may want to ask someone to help you hold your dog still while you apply the eye patch.
9. Monitor your dog's eye.
- Keep an eye on your dog's eye to make sure that the eye patch is not causing any irritation or discomfort.
- If you notice any problems, remove the eye patch and contact your veterinarian.
