How to Tell If a Leopard Gecko Is Pregnant

There are several ways to determine if a leopard gecko is pregnant, including:

1) Weight Gain: Leopard geckos will typically gain 2-3 grams per week during the first half of pregnancy.

2) Stomach Size: The gecko's stomach will become noticeably larger as she progresses in her pregnancy.

3) Tail Base Thickening: The base of the gecko's tail will become noticeably thicker as she nears the end of her pregnancy.

4) Behavior: Pregnant geckos may become more lethargic and reclusive. They may also lose interest in food and begin to "nest," or seek out a place to lay their eggs.

5) Egg Plugs: As the gecko's eggs develop, she will produce small, white egg plugs. These plugs are often visible in her cloaca, or vent.

If you suspect your leopard gecko is pregnant, it is important to provide her with a suitable nesting site. A small, dark, humid enclosure with a layer of damp sphagnum moss is ideal. You should also ensure the gecko is getting a diet that is high in calcium and protein.
