How to Tell Old My New Puppy Is

There are a few ways to tell how old your new puppy is.

1. Look at their teeth. Puppies' teeth erupt at different times, so you can estimate their age by looking at the number of teeth they have. Here is a general timeline of puppy teething:

* 2-3 weeks: Incisors begin to erupt

* 4-6 weeks: Canines begin to erupt

* 6-8 weeks: Premolars begin to erupt

* 12-16 weeks: Molars begin to erupt

2. Feel their ears. Puppies' ears are soft and floppy when they are first born. They gradually start to stand up as they get older. By the time they are 6-8 weeks old, their ears should be fully erect.

3. Check their nails. Puppies' nails are sharp and pointed when they are first born. They gradually start to dull as they get older. By the time they are 4-6 weeks old, their nails should be blunt and rounded.

4. Weigh them. Puppies gain weight rapidly during the first few weeks of life. You can use a kitchen scale to weigh your puppy to track their growth. Here is a general weight chart for puppies:

* Newborn: 4-12 ounces

* 1 week: 12-24 ounces

* 2 weeks: 24-36 ounces

* 3 weeks: 36-48 ounces

* 4 weeks: 48-60 ounces

* 5 weeks: 60-72 ounces

* 6 weeks: 72-84 ounces

5. Look at their behavior. Puppies' behavior changes as they get older. Here are some general milestones in puppy development:

* Newborn: Puppies are helpless and rely on their mother for everything.

* 2-3 weeks: Puppies begin to open their eyes and ears.

* 4-6 weeks: Puppies start to walk and play.

* 6-8 weeks: Puppies begin to interact with people and other animals.

* 8-12 weeks: Puppies learn basic commands and start to housetrain.

By combining all of these factors, you can get a pretty good idea of how old your new puppy is.
