Escaped Donkey Causes Commotion on Morrilton, Arkansas Street

Some pets are natural escape artists, and this donkey proved it. A short video shared on Facebook captured the animal wandering through the streets of Morrilton, Arkansas, prompting a wave of online attention and concern.

The clip, which amassed more than 80,000 views, shows the donkey initially standing calmly amid traffic and police vehicles. The situation escalated when a driver exited his car to coax the animal, prompting the donkey to bolt into a nearby parking lot.

Local officials from The Voice of Morrilton later confirmed that the “escape artist” was safely recovered and returned to its owner, putting the incident to rest.

How to Care for Donkeys

Donkeys can thrive on modest acreage—generally at least a half‑acre per animal. Because they are highly social, keeping a pair is recommended. The species is categorized into three size groups: miniature, standard, and mammoth, ranging from 200 to 1,200 lb. Larger donkeys require proportionally more space.

As natural grazers, donkeys prefer grasses and high‑fiber plants. A balanced diet may include barley straw, grass hay, and limited amounts of fruits such as apples, pears, raspberries, and bananas. Fresh, clean water must be available at all times for both jacks (males) and jennies (females).
