Why Cats Roll Toilet Paper: Causes & Effective Ways to Stop the Habit
There are so many odd things cats do, which confuse most cat parents. Sometimes a cat’s odd behavior is funny. Like when your cat sprints around the house with its tail puffy. Then there are other times when your cat stares into space or at a wall. Kind of scary, isn’t it? But why do cats unroll the toilet paper? I bet you’d like to learn how to stop it. Well, you have come to the perfect place. That is what we are going to talk about today.
So, why do cats do such strange things? It reminds me of a story.
I had just come home late one night. It was dark and nobody was there. As I unlocked the door, I heard a sound coming from the bathroom. Someone was in there doing their business. I knew this because they were unrolling a lot of toilet paper. A lot. I could not believe how inconsiderate this guy was. He was sitting on my toilet, and just unloading the whole roll of toilet paper. Not only was he a bad man, with bad manners, but so wasteful.
I picked up a baseball bat, approached the bathroom cautiously and called out, “Whoever’s in there, come out!”
The sound stopped then started again. I couldn’t believe the intruder, whoever he was, was more concerned about wiping himself than escaping. I repeated the command in a more aggressive manner. This time he ignored me and continued unrolling the toilet paper. I knew I had no choice but to let the wasteful, toilet paper thief have it. I took a deep breath, swung the door open and flicked on the light only to find my cat Ozzie standing in front of a pile of toilet paper. I breathed a sigh of relief, but wondered to myself, “Is my cat nuts?”
If you’re a cat owner, I am sure you have wondered the same thing. So, why does your cat do strange things? Any ideas? Well, I guess it is mostly instinct. At least that is what most experts tells us. But why do cats attack the toilet paper? Hmmm.

Why do cats unroll the toilet paper?
Or maybe a better question would be, why do cats attack the toilet paper? Well, the answer is mostly instinctual and a little bit your fault as well.
Think about it, your cat is sitting in the bathroom, bored. Suddenly a few inches above its head, a little white thing flutters in the air like a butterfly or a bird. Your cat paws at it. It makes a sound and produces more fluttery white stuff. For a bored cat, it’s the gift that keeps on giving, which only encourages your cat’s instinct to play with it more. It is in your cat’s natural instincts to play, which teaches it to hunt. And that is why your cat attacks the toilet paper.
