Salmonella can affect animals that eat contaminated products. Humans who handle pet products contaminated with Salmonella can also face risks, especially if they do not thoroughly wash their hands after contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to it.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Though rare, Salmonella can also cause more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
Pet parents who exhibit these signs after coming in contact with this product should call their healthcare providers.
Pets infected with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may only experience decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
The recalled products were sold through retail stores in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska.
Recalled products can be identified as follows:
