Meet Cricket: Our Beloved Ragdoll Cat

Cricket (short for Christianna) was born August 23, 2010.  She has been the ruling member of our family since she was about 4 months old.  She keeps my husband, our youngest son and me in line in our quiet country home. Cricket is our only pet.

I have always loved cats and have been owned by several wonderful ones since I was a little girl.  While reading about different cat breeds online, I fell in love with their beautiful blue eyes.  The more I read about these “gentle giants”,  the more I knew one would fit in perfectly in our family.

Cricket’s breeder, Lynn, had advertised her cattery in a paper that my husband had picked up at work.  I emailed her and she told me she had a 4 month old girl for sale.  I decided to go check out this blue-eyed kitty.  Of course it was love at first sight.  There was no question that Cricket was coming home with me.

Lynn is a wonderful breeder.  She loves her cats and takes such good care of them.  Cricket is my first indoor-only cat.  I’ve had several questions and Lynn always answers them right away.  I have recommended her to several people who think they may be interested in this sweet breed.

Our son, Ethan, is in a wheelchair.  It took a few days for Cricket to get used to it, but now that she has, she feels the need to check on him often during the day.  She wanders back to his room, pushes the door open and makes sure that Ethan is behaving himself.  She loves nothing more than when he follows her back to the den.  Although she’s used to the wheelchair, she still doesn’t quite understand that “stop, drop and roll” doesn’t work with someone who isn’t able to step over Princess Kitty.

My favorite things about Cricket:

• The way she crosses her front paws when “all is well in the kitty world.”
• The little moaning noises that she makes when she stretches during her naps.
• Watching her scratch on the window when she sees something outside that she wants to play with.
• The little soft taps that we get when she’s in a playful mood and she does her “surprise attacks.”
• The way she tries to take over the foot rest of my husband’s recliner in the evenings when we’re relaxing in the den.

Cricket loves:

• Head and neck scratches.
• Her window seat with her custom made (by me) rag quilt.
• Fluff, the cat from next door.
• Trying to hide under the covers when I’m making up the bed.

I’m so glad I decided to make Cricket a member of our family.  I can’t imagine life without her.
