Meet Sugar: Ragdoll Cat of the Week

Hello everyone! My name is Sugar. I was born on August 12, 2013 in Britt, Iowa and then by a small twist of fate, I landed in a New Jersey pet store. On November 9, 2013, a beautiful Saturday afternoon, my mom took a drive with her friend to grab some coffee. During their drive, her friend needed to stop in the pet store. So she browsed the store as he shopped. I was in that store that day, along with many other cats and dogs looking for a home. I was almost 3 months old. My mom has always loved cats, but hadn’t had one since childhood because she worked all the time. But on this glorious day, she took one look at me and it was love at first sight! She asked the staff if she could take me to the playroom to get to know me and within an hour, I was in the car and on the way home. Now my mom works from home and now has plenty of time for me! We are so grateful to have found each other and we are so happy!

It’s funny…my mom had never even heard of Ragdoll cats. Can you believe it? Was she hiding under a rock? Nevertheless, she dug up all the information she could and learned all about me and my breed in no time. She named me Sugarplum Coconut (Sugar for short). Everyone thinks it’s a girl name, but I get where she’s coming from. I’m white and super sweet. It makes sense! When I was a kitten, I used to try to run outside and look at the birds in the trees, but I don’t do that anymore. Now I stay on the balcony and get some fresh air that way. I even sleep in the flower box, which is now known as my hammock. I also go out for walks and to the pet store in my stroller. Sometimes I jump in my stroller and meow to remind my mom to take me out.

My favorite thing to eat is fish, but I do switch it up because I want to eat a healthy, balanced diet. I prefer dry kibble, but if you give me soupy canned food by Weruva and BFF, I’ve been known to lick the sauce and nibble at the rest. What can I say? I crave the crunch! Right now I’m loving Natural & Delicious dry cat food. I must admit, I love all varieties…not just the fish. If my food dish is empty, I hunt my mom down and cry. Then she says, “Tell Mommy what you want Sugar”. Since I’m a smart little fellow, I walk her to my empty kibble dish and wait till she fills it again. Right now I weigh 14 pounds.

I love to scratch everything, but when I hear my mom say “Not My Furniture!”, I just run to my own furniture and scratch there instead. Between you and me, I just do this for attention. I do it mostly when my mom is on the phone, so she has no choice but to pay more attention to me. I’m a sneaky little guy, but it’s so much fun to be sneaky! In my house, I have several cat trees, scratchers, comfy beds, toys, etc. You name it, I have it. I even have a teepee! I’m spoiled, but not a brat. As a matter of fact, I’m a super sweet boy. Everyone says so. I’ve even turned cat haters into Sugar lovers. What can I say? I amaze people because I’m super smart, super vocal and super loving. I can even say “Hello”! My mom tells people that and they don’t believe her, until they hear it for themselves! Then they are just amazed. When I hear music, I like to sing along. I go to the window and sing to the neighbors. I like to stay active, so I play ball, do jumps, run through the house, hunt and chase my mice. I also like to sneak into my tunnel and play hide and seek. Mr. Gray is my favorite mouse. I hunt him the most.

When I get tired, I like to curl up onto a yoga mat and do some stretching and laying around. I sleep a lot too. Which, by the way…I’m about to go do right now. It’s been my pleasure to speak to all of you! Thanks for taking the time to learn all about me! Have a PURRfect day!
