Mimi – A Seal Lynx Bicolour Ragdoll Kitten

Submitted May 18, 2017

Mimi: The Stunning Ragdoll Kitten Featured This Month

Mimi is my beautiful 8 month old, bicolour kitten. Everyone says they see lynx in her pretty markings. I love her more than anything in this world. Her daily priorities include: chasing rolled up tinned foil balls, sleeping, having cuddles, stretching, yawning, having more cuddles, eating, chasing flies, and having more cuddles. I would like to nominate Mimi for kitten of the month because when my fiancee died suddenly on March 29th aged 39, her unconditional, overwhelming love saved my life. The joy of her gives me a million reasons to be grateful and to keep going.

Mimi is excited and delightfully impatient for us to start every new day together. It’s so infectious. She finds different ways to get me out of bed each morning. These include: sweeping the bedside clock off the night stand with her tail and scratching the bubble wallpaper with her claws, to biting my nose until I hide my face under the pillow and kneading my chest with her paws, with or without pajamas ! You can’t help but smile. Imagine crying yourself to sleep and waking up laughing. That’s Mimi. When Olivier died I felt like time had stopped and all the love in the world had gone away with him but this affectionate, curious, playful little kitten sees beauty in everything. Caring for her and getting to know her good-natured, comical character has brought love and laughter into my life every day.

Mimi thought she had won the lottery when she was allowed to sleep in our bed every night. We always play for while before lights out. Her favourite bedtime games are: chase the laser pen and catch the duvet toe monster. When she’s ready to sleep, I feel her soft, tentative footsteps climbing up and onto my pillow. She starts purring the second her long body is stretched out fully, just millimeters away from my head. It melts my heart. I had nightmares for the first few weeks after Olivier died but every time I cried out, Mimi was always there, protectively pressing her warm body or her loving little face against mine. She never left me. I’m so grateful for her.

Mimi thinks I can’t see her when she hides behind our curtains or crouches inside the mouth of her play tunnel. Her striped, quivering tail gives her away every time. She loves to pounce on a passing foot or a stray ping pong ball. When well meaning friends and relatives over water the large yucca plant we have growing in the living room, Mimi likes nothing better than to climb into the soil and dig. I think the temptation of all those earthly smells becomes too much. I know that she’s been digging when I play “follow the brown, wet footsteps” all over the house. Mimi likes to sit inside bags, drink the water from my glass and play fetch like a puppy dog.
