Meet Trixie: The Floppy Cat Highlight of the Week

I had always loved animals since I was a child, dogs and cats in particular. As a child I grew up with four lovely cats three Persians and a British shorthair and three dogs. For a few years we traveled and when we moved to Canada I always missed my furry pet family. We were visiting family friends when I came across a gorgeous lynx point Himalayan I was smitten and my birthday was coming up so we got the breeders information and contacted her the family we were visiting accompanied us to bring home our very own himmy she was the feistiest and oldest of a litter of five I knew she was the one as she came up to me and started wrestling with my shoes.

And so we brought home our little Trixie at ten weeks. My siblings and parents were in love with the little ball of fluff. Trixie always stayed close to us but spent the most time with my mom I played with her but it was my mom that cleaned her eyes, groomed her, fed her and cleaned her litter she was more my moms cat then anyone else’s. She only liked to be pet when she desired. She liked to be fed treats by hand which was my mom’s doing spoiling her. She really disliked being groomed. When my mom would read the paper Trixie would swat at it demanding attention. When mom would ask for a kiss she would put her fluffy paws on her shoulder and lick her on the cheek.

When Trixie was five we got her a white Persian who became her best friend sadly he didn’t live long and passed at one year. After that I got married moving to New York and taking my sweet girl Trixie with me. She was my only friend in a new city where I knew no one. Over the years she had some UTI issues which were treated.

After a year I had my daughter Alyshba in 2007 Trixie instantly became her best friend constantly by her side. It was amazing how she was with my kids both my son and daughter who were lucky enough to have spent as much time as they did with her. She loved them both dearly like a mother. I taught my kids to be very gentle with all animals they loved and respected her. Two years ago we brought our Ragdoll kittens Shadow and Tinkerbelle home Trixie was not happy. She never accepted them and stayed with my daughter mostly. Over the last few years she had developed arthritis and had a few seizures. The last few months were hard with her becoming very picky with food she still wanted to be spoon and hand fed which I did for her I wish I could have spent all my time with her.

When we took her to the vet we were advised to put her down as she had been drastically loosing weight but we couldn’t bring ourselves to put her to sleep.
In the last week I noticed her having trouble waking and using the litter box less frequently. The morning of the 26th of February 2018 I went to wake my daughter for school and found Trixie on the bedroom floor I touched her and she was cold and rigid like a wooden plank. From that moment on my husband took care of all arrangements.

Our darling sweet Trixie was gone, never again would we see our sweet Miss Puffy again a name given to her by my daughter or hold her in her arms. She will always be in our hearts always loved and cherished may she Rest In Peace and be reunited with her best friend Whishkers. We love you Trixie.
