Sasha Fierce: The Charming Ragdoll Cat Highlighted This Week

Last January, my husband’s mother died suddenly. In August, his father, who never smoked, died of lung cancer. My husband was devastated and needed something cheerful to think about. I thought it would be nice to have a kitten.

I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (a medical condition that makes my body act as if I am allergic to many things. The result can be anaphylaxis.) I have had reactions to dogs and cats. l started researching and found cats with lower Fel D 1 protein levels are less likely to cause reactions. My husband and I had talked about a kitten and were in the process of researching breeders. I came across a Rescue Ragdoll on the NextDoor app.

She was beautiful and sounded perfect for us. Ragdolls have lower protein levels. We decided to check her out. She was about an hour away from us. When we saw her, we knew she was ours? Thankfully, I have never had a reaction to her. We thought she looked like a Diva, so we named her Sasha Fierce. I noticed that she understood some things I said. She would go downstairs when I said basement and up to the porch when I said outside. I decided to train her.

Sasha loved to learn and is incredibly smart. I used clicker training to teach her. She can: sit, stand on hind legs, jump through a hoop, high 5, spin in a circle, and give her paw. The vet believed Sasha was about 2 years old. She checked out fine at her first visit. I told the vet that she had difficulty eating. Food would fall out of her mouth. He said she was fine. I found a new vet that was cat friendly. She discovered Sasha had a tooth that needed to be pulled. She also required bone resurfacing. Poor girl!

She was so happy when we picked her up post-surgery. I think she was afraid we weren’t coming back. Shortly after this, I noticed that Sasha had 2 patches of missing fur.

I took her to the vet. We paid for numerous vet appointments, x-rays, chiropractors etc. Eventually, we found laser treatment. We do not know what causes Sasha’s pain, but we see it dramatically reduced after laser treatments. Her fur has grown back, she is happier and more active.

Sasha is quite vocal. She likes to tell us that she is hungry- 24/7. We have her on a diet. She is working on losing 5 pounds. She was 20 pounds. Her favorite toy was the Yeowww! Banana. Now, she is obsessed with Da Cat Bee.

We have to hide it when we are not playing with her. She has destroyed one so far. We have 3 back up bees.

My husband and I like to travel. We were concerned about leaving Sasha alone. She was used to having both of us around all the time. We found a breeder and brought 2 Radgoll Kittens home in May. They are a terrific trio. –We would never get anything but a Ragdoll.
