Create Chic Cat-Themed Flair Pins in Minutes
If you're a proud cat person and not afraid to show it, then these kitty flair pins are most certainly your jam. Even better, you probably already have a plastic container you can upcycle. Just print, trace, and bake; then flaunt your feline flair!
Things You'll Need
- Clear plastic containers (#6 only)
- Printer
- Free templates
- Scissors
- Permanent markers, various colors
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper or tin foil
- Pin blanks
- Hot glue
Note: You should only use #6 grade plastic, as any other grade will not shrink. Alternatively, you could buy shrink plastic sheets at the craft store.
Step 1
First, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cut the sides off the plastic container so that you're left with the flat top and bottom sheets. Depending on the size of your container, you may need two to three containers to make all of the pins.
Step 2
Download and print the free templates. Lay a plastic sheet on top of the template and trace the design(s) onto the plastic.
Step 3
Color in the designs with permanent markers. Pro tip: metallic permanent markers will make your flair pins sparkle.
Step 4
Cut out the designs and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or tin foil.
Step 5
Place them in the oven for 1 to 3 minutes. Watch them magically curl up and shrink! When they flatten back out, you know they're done. If they are still slightly curled when you take them out of the oven, you can press a mug or glass on top to flatten them.
Step 6
Once the charms have cooled, hot glue them to pin blanks.
Now pin them to to your coat or jacket — and remember, there's no such thing as too much flair!
