How Long Do Puggles Live?

Puggle health is generally very good, with few major problems to be aware of. However, there are several Puggles health issues that you should keep an eye out for, due either to their heritage or their size.

* Eye Problems: Pugs and Beagles are both known to have various eye problems, including glaucoma and cataracts. While there’s no way to completely prevent these, regular check-ups with your vet can help to identify and treat any issues early on.

* Snoring: Like Pugs, Puggle can suffer from breathing difficulties, such as sleep apnea and Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome (BAS), both of which can lead to heavy snoring and/or coughing fits. In severe cases, surgery might be necessary to alleviate the symptoms.

* Hip Dysplasia: This condition occurs when the hip joint doesn't develop properly, leading to pain, lameness, and difficulty walking. While it's more prevalent in larger dogs, it has also been seen in Pugs and Beagles. Early diagnosis and treatment are key for managing this condition.

* Other Health Concerns: Some other possible health issues for Puggle include:

* Allergies, which can cause skin problems, sneezing, and itching.

* Ear infections, also quite common in dogs with floppy ears.

* Hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones, which can lead to weight gain, lethargy, and dry skin.

* Bloat, a serious and life-threatening condition in which the stomach fills with gas and can twist, cutting off blood flow to the heart.

Despite the potential health issues mentioned above, Pugs and Beagles are usually quite hardy and healthy dogs. By providing your companion with proper care and regular vet check-ups, you can greatly reduce their risk for illness and prolong their lifespan.
