Pet Nutrition Guide: Vegetables That Are Toxic to Your Furry Friends
I’ve talked previously about fresh vegetables you can add to your pet’s diet, either as a treat or directly in their meals to help boost their overall vitality and health.
Today, let’s talk about which vegetables and fruits aren’t good for your pets that you should be avoiding!
Vegetables You Shouldn’t Feed Your Pets
- White potatoes. While sweet potatoes are a great option, you should avoid white potatoes. They’re very high in the glycemic index and aren’t going to offer your pet anything health-wise.
- Garlic. Garlic can be okay to feed in small amounts, but you have to know the proper amounts. Unless you know the amount of garlic your pet can have, you should avoid feeding it altogether.
Other common fruits and vegetables to avoid are:
- Tomatoes
- Rhubarb plant
- Onion
- Grapes
- Raisins
Of course, this isn’t a complete list of vegetables to avoid feeding your pet, so be sure to do your research if you’re unsure whether a certain vegetable is safe for feeding.
Additionally, anytime you’re going to feed a new food, it’s best to double check with a pet professional to make sure it’s a healthy option for your pet.
Keep those pets healthy and happy everyone!
