7 Proven Ways to Keep Your Pet Cool This Summer
Summer spells out time for fun outdoor activities from summer vacations to pools parties and what have you. Summer is all about fun. But as it is a fun season, it might also be dangerous to your special furry friend as they become susceptible to heatstroke and heat exhaustion due to a rise in the temperature of the surrounding. Intense heat may cause problems to your dogs such as cardiac arrest, organ failure, blindness, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and hemorrhaging, to mention but a few. It is a serious matter and should be treated as such.

However, you shouldn’t fret over it because there are measures you can take to ensure that your dog is out of harm’s way during summer because of the rise in the atmospheric temperature. In this article, we are going to share with you 7 tips you can use to keep your special furry friend cool during the summer.
1. REGULAR GROOMING
Reducing the thickness of the coat of your special furry friend will help promote airflow and blood circulation, thereby promoting heat loss from your pet’s body. You can groom your pet at home if you can or take it to a professional pet groomer.
2. REDUCE AND TIME EXERCISES

Exercise should be reduced during the summer as it increases heat in the body. Exercise should be minimized and it should also be scheduled in the morning and/or late evening as the atmospheric temperature tends to be more friendly around that time. However, you shouldn’t fail to keep to an exercise regime as exercise helps improve your dog’s health.
3. PLAY WITH WATER
Playing with water not only helps in bringing down your dog’s temperature, but it is also a fun activity you can share with your special furry friend. If you have a pool, take your dog in for a dip regularly, if not, water down your dog with a hose or in a bath. A sprinkler system is always a good way to get your pet to cool down.

4. PROVIDE FRESH DRINKING WATER
Provide cool drinking water for your special furry friend at different spots inside the house where it can be easily accessed by your pet. Drinking water helps cool down your pet’s body temperature.

5. NEVER SIT YOUR PET IN A PARKED CAR
It is a bad idea to keep your pet in a parked car. In fact, NEVER leave your pet in a parked car even if the AC is running and you’re playing its favorite music. The temperature in a parked car rises fast and becomes drier especially when parked under the sun.
6. AVOID NOON ACTIVITIES
The temperature is usually higher at noon. It is advisable to suspend all noon activities with your furry pet at noon and do them in the mornings or late evenings to avoid the heat.

7. PROTECT PAWS FROM HOT SURFACES
Due to the excessive heat, surfaces tend to get very hot. You should try to avoid having your pet walk on hot surfaces. If a surface feels hot to you, it probably feels hot for your pet’s paws too.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF EXCESSIVE HEAT
Should in case your pet gets exposed to excessive heat, you should take the following measures:
-Remove your pet from heat surfaces.
-Cooldown your pet by pouring water on it or putting it in a bath. Don’t use ice.
-Give drinking water.
-Take your pet to the vet.
