Ava: The Ragdoll That Brightens My Days
Some people make New Year resolutions to eat healthier, give up smoking, or improve their fitness. This year my resolution is to improve my happiness. The best decision I have made so far in my journey towards happiness comes in the form of a seven pound furry creature called Ava.
In mid-January I began the search for the perfect feline friend to keep me company during the day. I tried to keep an open mind about cat breeds; however ragdolls were always on my mind. I had an obsession with ragdolls when I was younger, and this obsession was reignited after binge watching Floppycat videos.
I have always felt compassionate towards older animals; I felt the need to give a feline somewhere a new lease on life, so I decided to adopt an adult ragdoll. For several months I looked through the animal adoption databases and classifieds; I live in a small city and local options for ragdolls were limited. Finally, I found my teeny tiny Ava in a classified section in another city. It was a three hour journey home, and the whole way Ava meowed, yowled, and hissed. I did not blame her; it must have been a frightful experience for her.
When we got home we placed Ava in a room that was set up with toys and food so she could acclimatise to the new environment. As soon as Ava’s pet carrier door opened out she pranced, and with her head held high she confidently sauntered through the room. Within five minutes of her arrival Ava acted like she owned the place, she demanded to be let out of her room to explore the rest of house. Ava is a confident girl who loves exploring, and she does not like anybody telling her what to do!
Ava has a “regal” demeanour, she loves being the center of attention, looking pretty (she is always grooming), and being heard by all her loyal subjects. Ava is a tiny girl, however she loves her food! She starts up her V8 purring engine as soon as she hears her wet food can opening.
A typical day for Ava consists of waking me up at 3am- still trying to fix that! Then she will have a mid-morning nap on the top tier of her cat tree bathing in the morning sun. She’ll spend the rest of the day sleeping, grooming, or stalking “prey”- she loves to play with her toys!
Ava is my shadow; she follows me around to see what I’m doing and is always by my side. She isn’t a lap cat, but when she does show affection it feels extra special. Ava has many quirks and she always finds a way to make me laugh, and if I feel sad it doesn’t last long when she is around.
Ava brings such joy and happiness to my life. What I love about Ava the most is that her love is unconditional. As cliché as it sounds when I look into her eyes I can tell this creature is completely loyal, loving, and has placed a great deal of trust into me. Every day I feel like it is a privilege to love and cherish this wonderful cat.
Although I am not the original guardian of Ava I have managed to get in touch with her breeder, and have been welcomed into the breeder’s facebook group. I would highly recommend Sempre Ragdolls in Sydney Australia, Haylee the breeder has a genuine interest in the well being of her present and past litter, and produces quite handsome and beautiful cats.
