How to Build an Incubator for Leopard Gecko Eggs

Materials

* 1 plastic storage container (10-20 gallons)

* 1 heat source (light bulb or heating pad)

* 1 thermostat (optional, but recommended)

* Substrate (vermiculite, peat moss, or coconut husk)

* Humidity source (damp paper towels, a wet sponge, or a humidifier)

* Digital thermometer/hygrometer

Instructions

1. Choose a suitable plastic storage container. The container should be large enough to fit the eggs and substrate comfortably, but not so large that the eggs are too far from the heat source.

2. Add substrate to the container. Fill the container with 2-3 inches of substrate. Vermiculite, peat moss, or coconut husk are all good choices.

3. Add the heat source. You can use a light bulb or a heating pad as the heat source. If using a light bulb, place it at the top of the container, and if using a heating pad, place it under the container.

4. Add a humidity source. Place damp paper towels, a wet sponge, or a humidifier in the container. The humidity should be kept around 50-60%.

5. Add the thermostat (optional). If using a thermostat, attach it to the heat source and set the desired temperature. The ideal temperature for leopard gecko eggs is between 80-88 F (27-31 C).

6. Place the eggs in the incubator. Place the eggs on top of the substrate and space them evenly. Be careful not to crush or damage the eggs.

7. Close the container and monitor the temperature and humidity. Keep a close eye on the container and make sure the temperature and humidity remain at the desired levels. Make any necessary adjustments to the heat source or humidity source.

Maintenance

- Check the humidity and temperature inside the incubator daily and adjust as needed.

- Replace the water in the humidity chamber every other day to prevent the growth of mold.

- Rotate the eggs gently once or twice a day to prevent them from sticking to the substrate.

- After about 60-90 days, the eggs will begin to hatch.
